Benefits of Red Rice Flakes

Red rice flakes are a good source of fiber, protein, and iron. They are also a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B1, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, manganese, and magnesium.

 Cooking Instructions:

  1. Rinse and soak the red rice flakes.
    • Place the red rice flakes in a large bowl and rinse them thoroughly with cold water. Drain the water.
    • Add enough water to the red rice flakes to cover them, and allow them to soak for about 5–10 minutes. The flakes will absorb the water and become soft, but they should not be mushy. After soaking, drain any excess water.
  2. Prepare the seasoning.
    • Heat a pan with some cooking oil over medium heat.
    • Add mustard seeds, and when they start to splutter, add curry leaves and green chilies (if using).
  3. Sauté onions and vegetables (optional):
    • If you’re using onions, add them to the pan and sauté until they become translucent.
    • Add the chopped vegetables and cook them until they are slightly tender. You can use vegetables like peas, carrots, or potatoes.
  4. Add Spices:
    • Sprinkle a pinch of turmeric powder and salt over the sautéed onions and vegetables. Stir to coat them evenly.
  5. Add Red Rice Flakes:
    • Add the soaked and drained red rice flakes to the pan. Gently mix them with the sautéed vegetables and spices. Cook for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Garnish and serve:
    • If desired, garnish the dish with freshly grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves, and a drizzle of lemon juice for added flavor.
  7. Serve Hot:
    • Red rice flakes can be served hot and are often enjoyed for breakfast or as a light, healthy snack.

Red rice flakes can also be used to make sweet dishes, similar to how you would prepare rice pudding. You can add sugar, milk, and cardamom for a delicious dessert option.

Here are some of the ways to use red rice flakes:

  • Breakfast cereal: Cook red rice flakes with water or milk and add your favorite toppings, such as nuts, seeds, and dried fruit.

  • Savory snacks: Stir-fry red rice flakes with onions, vegetables, and spices. You can also use them to make savory pancakes.

  • Desserts: Mix red rice flakes with yogurt, milk, and fruit for a healthy and delicious dessert. You can also use them to make granola bars or crumbles.
