How to use Chinnus Sambar Masala?

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, beans, potatoes, etc.)
  • 1 small tamarind ball (soaked in water)
  • 2 tablespoons sambar powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 2-3 dried red chilies
  • A few curry leaves
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the dal with turmeric powder and 3 cups of water
  2. Take the soaked tamarind and extract its pulp by squeezing it with water.
  3. Saute the Vegetables until its cooked, and  add the cooked Dal, Tamarind , Sambar powder, and Salt.
  4. Cook the Sambar on low heat for 10-15 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the vegetables to cook in the tamarind-infused dal.
  5. For Seasoning, in a small pan, heat the oil over medium heat, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Fry for a minute until aromatic. Pour the seasoning into the sambar pot and mix everything together.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.  Your delicious sambar is ready to be served! Enjoy it hot with steamed rice, idli, dosa, or vada.

Now you’re all set to enjoy a delightful bowl of homemade sambar! Happy cooking!
